PARABLES FOR THE THEATRE
Reseña
Libro Usado, Tapa Blanda. Three gods descend to Earth in search of just one good person to justify keeping the world unchanged. They only find hospitality in Shen Te, a poor but kind-hearted prostitute. As a reward, the gods give her a large sum of money, which she uses to buy a small tobacco shop. However, her newfound wealth attracts a flood of parasitical relatives, neighbors, and freeloaders who take advantage of her generosity. To protect herself from financial ruin, Shen Te invents a ruthless, male alter-ego: a strict imaginary cousin named Shui Ta. Through this split identity, the play explores Brecht's core moral dilemma: Is it possible to remain truly good in an inherently corrupt and capitalist society?
